It’s such a basic statement. But an important one. A good night’s rest readies you to take on the challenges of the next day. In Central and Southern Indiana, hundreds of children and adults are sleeping on the floor or in chairs each night—interfering with their health, education and welfare.

This Lent, we’re encouraging Conferences to hold a special collection: 40 Days for 40 Beds. We are asking each Conference to collect donations to fund 40 beds.

Participation isn’t limited to Conferences. Anyone with a heart for our neighbors can make a donation that will go toward the purchase of a bed.

Donations will be used exclusively to provide twin beds for children 18 and younger as well as full-sized beds for adults.

$100: Twin bed with frame

$200: Double or queen bed with frame

The collection begins Ash Wednesday (March 5) and ends on Easter Sunday (April 20).

We will share the results shortly after Easter.

  • Conferences collect donations or donations are collected by SVdP Indy.
  • Funds are restricted for use for beds (mattresses + frame if applicable).
  • The SVdP Indy Distribution Center will have two options for a child’s bed:
    • Twin bed-in-a-box with a frame
    • Twin airbed options
  • The neighbor decides which twin option they prefer.
  • Each neighbor can have two twin beds unless the Conference opts for more based on an in-person home visit. The needs must be communicated to Neighbor Services.
  • The Distribution Center will stock some double/queen beds, which will be available at no cost to the Conference as long as there is budget available.
  • Beds may be ordered through the Distribution Center using our volume discounts. Beds are shipped directly to the Distribution Center or, in some cases, directly to the Conference (NOT the neighbor).
