Beggars for the Poor

The Indianapolis Council provides a monthly subsidy payment to the Beggars for the Poor to purchase food and personal care items for the homeless. Clothing is also provided from our Distribution Center. A hot meal is served each Saturday morning on a downtown street, plus clients are provided clothing and personal care items and, when available, a sack lunch. For additional information, click here:

This group of people bring Christ’s love to the homeless of the city each Saturday morning. The core group is small, but it accepts volunteers of all sorts to assist in their Saturday mission. Financed by St. Vincent de Paul and using a SVdP truck, they park on a downtown street where they pass out clothing of all sorts to the street people as needed by them; we also serve coffee and food (varies from sandwiches to fruit, to hot dogs, to chili, etc. etc.) made by volunteers; pass out personal hygiene items as needed, as well as new underwear and socks. Help is needed to assist in accumulating clothing items, sorting and sizing items received from outside sources and from in house supplies from St Vincent de Paul. Help is also needed to prepare the food given out each Saturday.
